The street car took the chilling image of what seems to be a face pressed against the window of an abandoned building, at the site of a former prison.
The jail, where the Oscar-nominated Shawshank Redemption was shot, is infamous for its dark and disturbing past.
And people have claimed the face of a woman, can be seen peering out from an attic floor window of one of the buildings.
The house in question has long historical connections to the abandoned Mansfield Reformatory in Ohio, US.
US travel site Roadtrippers.com said the madness that occurred within the walls of the historic was “disheartening”.
Built between 1886 and 1910, the prison was forced to close in December of 1999 via federal court due to being overcrowded and having inhumane conditions to live in.
It also allegedly reported hundreds of unexplainable deaths.
A lot of violence took place behind its walls – there were executions, prison murders, and deaths from old age and from sickness.
Roadtrippers said about the former prison: “The chapel, infirmary, library, cellblocks, and the inmate graveyard are just a few of the places where people have had strange, scary, and violent encounters with spirits.”
But the building seen in the image was a former guard house. It was once owned by the reformatory during its many years as an active jail.
Commenters have since claimed the fuzzy image captured in the window of 417 Annadale Avenue looks like the spirit of a woman.
Many speculated she could have been the guard’s wife or perhaps the spirit of an inmate.
Or it could be a case of visual abnormality – where people have perceived a pattern where none exists.
While one wrote on Twitter: “#Local #urbanlegend suggests it is the ghost of Phoebe Wise, a notorious Mansfield hermit and eccentric.
Another added: “The ghosts of these violent and maltreated prisoners are not easily silenced.”
While there was no obvious way to verify whether or not Google Street view managed to photograph a ghost, the Mansfield Preservation Society Board of Trustees announced plans to buy the property and turn it into bed and breakfast for paranormal enthusiasts.
Roadtrippers said the site will probably be turned into a “wonderfully weird bed and breakfast to drop by for a night of ghostly fun”.
